Creating tools as a marketing strategy can be very powerful wen done right and a waste of time and resources when done badly.

This approach usually happens by accident, for example, I wanted a tool that would allow me to customize and personalize certain messages I display on my website to each visitor.

So I created my Content Personalization plugin, and when people started asking about it, I made it free for people to download, the word spread and it helped me grow my email list.
